A nation-wide health promotion foundation, SuperFriend aims to improve the health and wellbeing of industry superannuation fund members. It facilitates targeted initiatives, including programs, information, resources, activities and research.
Almost half of Australians will experience a mental health disorder at some point in their lifetime, and one in five Australians experience a mental illness in any given year.
Mental health is an important issue for all Australians. It is also particularly relevant because we are aware that many of our members are working in a dynamic and hardworking industry which can require long working hours and travel from home. For our members who aren’t working, isolation and financial stress can also impact on their mental health, particularly those suffering from other conditions.
As part of this initiative, we will be training our staff and deploying the SuperFriend resources so that we can play a role in helping members when they need it the most. Our staff will receive specialist mental health training to enable them to confidently “step into” conversations with members who may be in distress, at risk or experiencing a mental health issue.
As a national health promotion foundation, SuperFriend collaborates and works with experts from the Mental Health Sector to tailor effective resources, information, programs, research and activities for the members of industry super funds.
