Investing your super for a sustainable future

At Energy Super we are always looking at ways to invest responsibly. It’s all about investing today so we can all enjoy a better tomorrow.

Our shared value

“Energising a brighter future for Australia by supporting our members to become financially secure through responsible investment stewardship and responsible actions”

As investors, we need to think ahead about the risks and issues that can impact the future and can deliver strong returns in many years to come. We need to look at the external impacts and what it means for your generation and the generations of the future.

What is ESG?

ESG stands for Environmental, Social and Governance and these factors (outlined in the table below) play an important part in how Energy Super invests your money. It’s about making sure we consider the impact our investments have on the environment, or how the businesses we invest in treat employees, customers, suppliers and the community and how their Board is comprised.

What is Energy Super doing?

We actively consider responsible investment under a Shared Value Framework as shown below.

This framework is defined as a way of conducting business which aims to profitably solve social issues rather than via traditional philanthropy, or  through a one-way transactional donation. These are the guidelines we use when we make decisions on where to invest.

We want to contribute to society as well as improve returns for members so our framework is important to establish the sustainability of the world while still acting in the best interest of you, our members.

Meet Fiona Mann  fiona

Fiona is dedicated here at Energy Super to ESG and responsible investment within our investment team and also to oversee our shared value process. Fiona has over 15 years of investment experience with a passion for ESG and is responsible for driving ESG integration in everything we do.

How are we doing this?

Our investment areas are focused on socially responsible investments. To find more of our great examples click here.

We have several pillars that we are focused on to provide members with the knowledge that we are building an investment strategy that is sustainable for the long-term.

  1. ESG integration – All investment managers apply an ESG lens to investing on behalf of members. This is about ensuring that the ESG factors are considered and managed and integrated into the investment process and investments made.
  2. Socially responsible investment (SRI) – our SRI option has been reinvigorated, offering a ‘values’ based offering for members. This product actively removes sectors that are not considered socially responsible (e.g. alcohol, gambling, fossil fuels, weapons, palm oil, tobacco) from its Australian and International Shares –click here to find out more
