Our Executive Management

A new Executive team was created following the merger of Energy Super and LGIAsuper on 1 July 2021.

Our Executive team and staff work closely with the Board to look after the retirement savings of our members.

Kate Farrar

Chief Executive Officer

 

Kate was appointed as LGIAsuper’s Chief Executive Officer in April 2018. Kate was appointed to lead the merged fund of LGIAsuper and Energy Super, continuing her role as Chief Executive Officer from 1 July 2021.

Kate is responsible for delivering exceptional experiences and outcomes to LGIAsuper’s members, as well as leading the ongoing change and transformation required to build on our success over the last 54 years.

Kate has 30 years’ experience in leadership roles across the finance and energy sectors. Her previous roles include Managing Director of QEnergy, Chief Operating Officer at Ergon Energy Retail, and senior positions at Morgans Stockbroking, Barclays de Zoete Wedd, and Suncorp Investment Management. Prior to joining LGIAsuper, she was a Junior Partner (equivalent) at McKinsey & Company.

Kate holds a Bachelor of Music (Honours) Degree and a Masters Degree in Econometrics and Finance. She is also a graduate of INSEAD’s Advanced Management Programme.

Kate is a Responsible Person under LGIAsuper’s Registrable Superannuation Entity Licence, and a Responsible Manager under LGIAsuper’s Australian Financial Services Licence.

Shawn Chan

Chief Risk Officer

Shawn was appointed as Chief Risk Officer at LGIAsuper in October 2019, having joined LGIAsuper as Head of Risk in October 2018.

His responsibilities include development and implementation of LGIAsuper’s risk and compliance management frameworks, driving development of risk culture, and providing objective advice and guidance to the business.

Shawn has over 18 years’ experience within legal, risk and financial services compliance. Prior to joining LGIAsuper, Shawn held various risk and compliance roles in banking and investment management. He was previously a financial services lawyer.

Shawn holds a Bachelor of Laws from Queensland University of Technology, and a Bachelor of Commerce from The University of Queensland.

Shawn is a Responsible Person under LGIAsuper’s Registrable Superannuation Entity Licence.

Garnett Hollier

Chief Financial Officer

Garnett was appointed Chief Financial Officer at LGIAsuper in October 2019 and has been with LGIAsuper for more than eight years.

Garnett is responsible for LGIAsuper’s Finance, Tax, Strategic Analysis and Investment Operations functions. He oversees the financial affairs of LGIAsuper and ensures that the fund is meeting all its legislative and reporting requirements.

Garnett’s financial services career spans more than 20 years across a range of areas including chartered accounting and financial advice. Before joining LGIAsuper, Garnett was a Principal at Mercer.

Garnett holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) Degree, a Graduate Diploma in Accounting, a Graduate Certificate in Organisational Leadership, and a Diploma in Financial Advising. He is a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, and the Fund Executive Association Limited.

Garnett is a Responsible Person under LGIAsuper’s Registrable Superannuation Entity Licence, and a Responsible Manager under LGIAsuper’s Australian Financial Services Licence.

Lisa Kay

Chief Experience Officer

Lisa Kay was appointed to Energy Super’s Executive team in April 2017. Lisa was appointed as LGIAsuper’s Chief Experience Officer when LGIAsuper and Energy Super merged on 1 July 2021.

Lisa has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services Industry. She has led diverse teams across retail banking and premium relationship banking, and has a passion for helping Queenslanders achieve their financial goals by protecting and growing their assets.

Her knowledge in superannuation and financial planning comes with years of experience in client management working closely with wealth creation partners to achieve client goals.

Lisa is a dynamic leader who creates an environment for staff to develop their skills while delivering excellent results back to the business. She has a healthy obsession with customer experience and focuses on delivering outstanding service to members. She is innovative and uses her diverse skillset to improve member outcomes with every interaction.

Lisa’s qualifications include: Graduate Certificate in Executive Management and Development, Organisational Leadership, and General Manager Program (all from the Australian Graduate School of Management at UNSW); and Diploma of Financial Planning (RG146).

Sean Marteene

Chief Transformation Officer

Sean Marteene was appointed to Energy Super’s Executive team in August 2018. Sean was appointed as LGIAsuper’s Chief Transformation Officer when LGIAsuper and Energy Super merged on 1 July 2021.

Sean has over 17 years’ experience in the superannuation industry with leadership roles covering all facets of superannuation including product development, account management, operations and customer experience.

Sean’s previous role was with Aon as a Senior Consultant covering areas of customer insights, customer experience and product development. Sean is passionate about understanding customers and developing products and services utilising human-centred design frameworks.

Sean’s qualifications include: Masters of Applied Finance, Graduate Diploma of Financial Planning, and Diploma of Superannuation Management.

Hamish McKellar

General Counsel and Company Secretary

Hamish McKellar was appointed to Energy Super’s Executive team in November 2019. Hamish was appointed as LGIAsuper’s General Counsel and Company Secretary when LGIAsuper and Energy Super merged on 1 July 2021.

Hamish has 25 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer and company secretary, including 17 years in financial services across funds management, life and general insurance, banking and superannuation as well as roles in aviation, manufacturing and international trade.

Hamish is responsible for LGIAsuper’s legal and governance, functions.

Hamish’s qualifications include: Bachelor of Laws (LLB), Bachelor of Arts (French and Japanese), Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, and Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Ivan Ortiz

Chief Technology Officer

Ivan was appointed Chief Technology Officer at LGIAsuper in December 2018.

He is responsible for providing strategic direction to all technology teams and delivering innovative solutions that enhance the fund’s operations and provide real value to LGIAsuper’s members.

Prior to joining LGIAsuper, Ivan spent three years as Head of Technology at UBET. He quickly established himself as one of Brisbane’s most innovative and influential technology leaders, earning selection in the CIO50 list.

Ivan holds a Master of Technology Management (E-business) from The University of Queensland, a Bachelor of Engineering degree (Electronics and Telecomm) from the Monterrey Institute of Technology, and a Diploma of Project Management from the Australian Institute of Management.

Ivan is a Responsible Person under LGIAsuper’s Registrable Superannuation Entity Licence.

Andrea Peters

Chief Growth Officer

Andrea was appointed Chief Growth Officer at LGIAsuper in October 2018.

She is responsible for implementing LGIAsuper’s growth strategy and overseeing the fund’s Marketing and Sales functions, focusing on member experience and best outcomes for members.

Andrea has more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry. Her previous leadership roles were at JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, Equifax and Vodafone.

Andrea has extensive experience in customer experience, human-centred design, data analytics, digital, sales, marketing and commercial management.

Andrea has worked in New York, London, Sydney and Brisbane.

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Business Degree. Andrea is a Responsible Person under LGIAsuper’s Registrable Superannuation Entity Licence.

Troy Rieck

Chief Investment Officer

Troy Rieck was appointed Chief Investment Officer at LGIAsuper in September 2019 and is responsible for the delivery of investment outcomes at the fund. He manages the Investment team and is also responsible for Product.

Troy has held several senior investment management positions at superannuation funds, insurance companies and asset managers over the last 25 years, including Suncorp, Equipsuper and QIC.

Troy holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons 1), Bachelor of Arts (Economics) and Master of Commerce (Professional Accounting) from The University of Queensland.

He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Investment Management Consultants Association and the Securities Institute of Australia.

Troy is a Responsible Person under LGIAsuper’s Registrable Superannuation Entity Licence.
